Requiring a GPA when schools grade differently
Not every applicant's school uses the same scale, and some students may not know their exact GPA yet. Make the field optional, or label it "academic standing (GPA or equivalent)" so students can explain instead of leaving it blank out of uncertainty.
Writing a vague essay prompt
"Tell us about yourself" reads differently to every applicant and produces answers that are hard to compare. A specific prompt tied to what the scholarship actually supports gives comparable responses instead.
Offering multiple awards with no program field to tell them apart
Without a program dropdown, every application looks identical in the export and cannot be sorted by which scholarship it targets. Adding the field keeps review organised by fund from the start.
Questions about this form
Should the essay have a word count limit?
The form does not enforce one. If you want to suggest a length, put it directly in the field's label — for example "200–400 words" — and evaluate actual length once you review the CSV export.
Can a student submit a recommendation letter instead of a transcript?
Yes, if the file field stays optional and its label allows either — "Transcript or recommendation letter". Make transcript a separate required field instead if your process specifically requires one.
Is there a cap on how many students can apply?
Each plan has a response cap on the form; once reached, new applications are blocked rather than silently lost. Export to CSV ahead of the deadline if you expect to approach the limit, so you have every response backed up.
